2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz

Which band to use and when.

Wi-Fi

  1. 2.4 GHz travels farther and passes through walls better, but it is more crowded and often slower.
  2. 5 GHz is typically faster and less congested for devices near the router, with shorter range.
  3. Put TVs, laptops, and phones near the router on 5 GHz when signal is strong.
  4. If a device keeps dropping on 5 GHz in another room, move it to 2.4 GHz or improve router placement.
